Educational Solutions provides remediation for children who are experiencing difficulties with any key learning group areas of the NSW K – 6 curriculum. Children attend the Centre at least twice a week for instruction in reading, (comprehension and/or decoding), spelling, mathematics, writing or handwriting.
Lizard uses the effective research based techniques of Precision Teaching (PT) first formulated in the 1960s by Ogden Lindsley at Harvard".
- Precision Teaching is characterised by a philosophy in which the teacher takes responsibility for finding a way for the child to learn rather than blaming the child.
- The measurement system allows the teacher to carefully monitor a child's progress through the sequenced curriculum. Prior to proceeding to the next level, a child is required to demonstrate mastery of their current skill level rather than just being moved forward with the rest of the class as frequently happens in school.
- One of the key features of Precision Teaching is the concept that a student has not mastered a skill until it is performed at a near automatic level. This means it is well enough developed to support the next set of skills to be taught. We measure both accuracy and speed, rather than the usual method of relying on accuracy alone. This method known as Behavioural Fluency is recognised as a superior measure of skill mastery as long term retention of accomplished skills is much greater, and the child is more able to cope with distractions.
- Research shows best results occur when 70% of learning time is spent in practice – one of the deficiencies of today's classroom is the lack of opportunity for practice. Educational Solutions addresses this deficiency.
The Educational Solutions program is designed to assist children to develop their foundation academic skills. Sometimes, working at the level of the classroom may not be as effective or beneficial to the child's learning, as remediating the child's core problems. It is essential for any student that these basic skills underpinning any learning area are thoroughly and comprehensively mastered for new learning to take place. Working at the level of the classroom is coaching rather than remediation.
Prior to commencing tuition, performance in areas of concern will be assessed. These findings will form the basis for designing an individualised program around your child's strengths and needs. Progress is monitored continuously within each session allowing the program to be modified as soon as the child stops progressing at the expected rate. Our program is designed to be delivered intensively (a minimum of two sessions per week) to enable children to make significant gains.
