On completion of the ABA Training Level 1 course, am I definitely guaranteed work?

The demand for competent trained ABA therapists has always exceeded supply. We constantly have families across Sydney advertising for in-home therapists. You are invited to check our Therapist Wanted job board at reception when you come to Lizard Centre. Trained therapists are emailed a list of positions vacant every week. While there are always plentiful opportunities for work, it is the parents who recruit in-home therapists for their own child.

Is there a minimum or maximum number of hours a week required?

The minimum commitment is six hours per week. If you have more time available then you may work with more than one Lizard family up to a maximum 30-40 hours a week (full time). We suggest that you start with one family and then take on additional families if you have time available.

What working hours are involved?

Most ABA sessions are 2 ½ to 3 hours long and occur during the day. You should be available to do at least 2 sessions each week with the child. If you would like work in the evening or weekends, that may also be available. Each family is looking to fill a child's schedule with ABA therapy sessions throughout the week. Simply negotiate your own hours based upon your availability and the requirements of the family. If you are a university student you can arrange your work around you university timetable.

Do you have to have a degree or be at university to become an ABA Therapist?

No, you do not need a degree to become an In-home Therapist. However, many ABA therapists who are studying psychology, speech pathology or occupational therapy enjoy gaining practical skills related to their field of study. A love of children, willingness to learn and ability to take direction are the ESSENTIAL criteria.

How much will I get paid?

Therapists are employed directly by families who have children undertaking Lizard ABA programs, not by Lizard Centre, so you can negotiate your pay rate with the families. This can increase based on competence, experience and additional training. Wages are negotiated between therapists and families.

Where are the Families looking for therapists Located?

Lizard families across Sydney are looking for therapists to join their teams. At the end of the Information Session we will provide you with a list of families to contact in regard to work. Many people choose to secure a position before attending the training. We can also pass your details on to Lizard families so they can contact you to discuss joining their team.
